There is absolutely nothing that I hate more about Army life than the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT). Nothing has been much of a source of consternation or nervousness since I joined – not rifle qualification, obstacle courses, tests in AIT (hah), even this deployment – but the APFT drives me nuts.
I’m sure it has something to do with my total inability to do sit-ups. Push-ups and running are no problem for me, but for some reason sit-ups are ridiculously hard. It’s almost as if I can’t maintain muscle mass in my abdomen, no matter what I try. It’s very frustrating, and the usual response when I ask for tips is either “sit ups are easy, dude!” – coupled with a confused grin – or “do more sit ups.” O-K.
