Postcards from Tradocia

sand blizzard

This is the sight that greeted me when I stepped out of my truck this morning after a grueling night of UHF radio-staring-at. At least it cooled the place down a little…

I’m really starting to hate this place.

Update: Welcome, Mudville residents! Allow me to shamelessly pimp my photo page as well as the rest of my site!

wow–we had sand storms in ne when i was a kid–but NOTHING LIKE THAT. looking forward to, your, g and g

  2. I just started reading T.E. Lawrence’s Seven Pillars of Wisdom.

He talks about how the British leadership during WWI failed in Mesopotamia by not adding a small increment of force to aid the British troops who were besieged by Turkish forces at Kut, Iraq. The Brits at Kut eventually surrendered to the Turks.

Although the Arabs groaned under Turkish rule, the Brits didn’t give the Arabs any indication of support against the Turks. Thus, at best, the Arab people of the region were indifferent.

As you might expect, the Brits invaded via Basra.

Lawrence turned his interests toward Palestine and Arabia.

  3. Congrats- I see you are now on the MilBlog link at and your Sand Blizzard post is linked under Iraq weather. Cindy

  4. I imagine it is horrid to be in- but what a beautiful picture, cant wait for u to come home Alex…
