I just finished Imperial Grunts by Robert Kaplan. It’s a fantastic book about the exploits of United States special forces and line soldiers (mostly Marines, actually) across the globe; especially noteworthy are his chapters about Mongolia (US Army in Mongolia? you bet), Afghanistan, and of course Iraq. I want to write more about it later, but for now let’s just say that I heartily recommend it. (Who wants to borrow it? ^_^)
While browsing a gun forum the other day, I came across a post by a guy who was former US Army active duty and was recalled from the IRR (Individual Ready Reserve) to deploy with 1/34 ID. He even has a blog!
