I just checked it as well and Dock's right, looks like that was not a very smart thing to say. I'm surprised to see an Army spouse say something like that frankly. While I'm sure we can both comfortably admit that the rigors of full active duty regular Army soldiers are a bit different than that of their NG and Reservist counterparts, I think it's pretty clear that our families both endure the same hardship when it comes to deployment and our enemies are just as happy to kill a soldier with a Red Bull patch as they are to kill an 82nd Airborne grunt.

Hey Alex, That lady is full of BS. I told Jer this and he says he can sympathize with you. He's heard that in regards to firefighting. Since you are a volunteer you aren't really a fireman! What? He leaves his family to fight fires to get paid NOTHING!!

The way this country is gutting the military the way it is, we are lucky to have people like you to volunteer their lives to help this country! God Bless you SOLDIER!

Sorry I missed the 5th annual conclave, but I feel that I can also play a military exception policy card. Next year I'll be there for sure! (Barring drill weekend, annual training, a state mission that requires my expertise, an unlikely winter wedding, or the forecasted end of the world...for which I may be there anyways)

See you in May! Until then, Attack, Attack, Attack...the DFAC and computer problems?

Why is Jesus in a bed of lettuce? Were they going to eat the new-born king? Did they swaddle him in a tortilla?

I'm done. Happy New Year.

I experienced that feeling of "oh, you poor thing" the other day when talking to a random woman back home here in MN. I mentioned that I got back into the Guard after 5 years of being out and I could see an expression of disbelief on the woman's face, as if to say "they somehow duped you again you fool!"

I tried to tell her how great the whole experience has been for me and how it's dramatically improved my quality of life, not to mention the amazing opportunity of flying, but it was as if she couldn't hear anything I said about the positives. I felt like I was back at the U... ::sigh::

The Taste of Adventure indeed! God, I love other countries' attempts at mimicking US advertising. Sounds like the deployment is going as expected. I'll bet you're pumped about coming back for R&R in a few weeks; I know I'm ready for a break from flight school. Flying the OH-58 A/C has been a blast though, and I'll be sad to say goodbye to the old scout soon after I get back in January. State says I'm supposed to get promoted to 1LT at the end of January/beginning of February, but we'll see how that goes.

Sure wish we were going to be back in MN at the same time brother. On the bright side, it looks like I should be done with flight school as scheduled and be back in MN NLT than 1 JUN 12. We'll get the [Rock] Band back together and jam out soon enough. Until then

Winter is coming
